Reading
Units are taught by reading, discussing, and introducing skills through a particular story. Each week the unit story is read in class, new vocabulary words are introduce, and reading skills are being taught within the story, the story is reread at home (parents need to sign a story slip), and finally at the end of the week,we listen to a recording of the story and then take a quiz. Unit reviews are given every six weeks.
This year we are incorporating the Daily 5 into our reading time too. Daily 5 helps with small group instructions. The small groups will be covering the areas of reading comprehension, working with words, writing, and listening.
Outside reading will be recorded in the student planner called "reading log". Parents or students can record the number of minutes read each day at school and/or at home. No more extra slips!!!
